The 2024 “Maker in China” SME Innovation and Entrepreneurship Global Contest – Hong Kong Chapter (MiCHK) will be held in Hong Kong on 26 September. The Office of the Government Chief Information Officer of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Government in collaboration with the China Centre for Promotion of SME Development of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of the People’s Republic of China (MIIT), the Department of Youth Affairs of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government (LOCPG) in the HKSAR, and the China International Cooperation Association of SMEs co-organised the Contest. Formulated by the Hong Kong Cyberport Management Company Limited (Cyberport Company), the Angel Investment Foundation and the Guangzhou SME’s Promotion For Specialization Refinement Differentiation Innovation Development. The Contest is highly valued by the governments of the two cities.


Objective:

  • Promote the connection between innovative technologies and Enterprises
  • Promote the connection between innovation and technology projects and industrial parks
  • Promote the connection between market-oriented operations and government policies
  • Assist industries in collaborative innovation and industrial upgrading

The Top 10 finalists will be rewarded

  • Investor & Entrepreneur Matchmaking Meeting

In the afternoon of the finals and in mid-October, the finalists will be arranged to meet with angel investors, heads of VC funds and entrepreneurs in the Greater Bay Area.

 

  • Participation in 2 major international exhibitions is free of charge

Participate in the Hong Kong International Innovation and Technology Fair (InnoEX) in 2025 and the 27th China International Software Expo (China Soft Expo) in 2025 for free

#Participating in the Software Expo, OGCIO will subsidise the round-trip transportation between Hong Kong/Mainland cities and local hotel accommodation for one member of each team at the discretion of the OGCIO.
 

  • Directly enter the semi-final enterprise group of the ‘Qianhai Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao-Taiwan Youth Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition’ to compete for a prize of up to 400,000 RMB.
  • Interview opportunities for Cyberport Incubation Programme and 3 months free access to Cyberport Smart-Space*

  • Interview opportunity for the angel investment foundation’s “Flash Forward” Lead Investment acceleration program and strive for an investment of HK$5 million and acceleration incubation services.

 

Hong Kong Chapter Champion, 1st Runner-Up and 2nd Runner-Up will be rewarded

  • Represented Hong Kong in the “Maker in China” SME Innovation and Entrepreneurship Global Contest – Global Finals

The champions, runners-up and runners-up of the Hong Kong Chapter will represent Hong Kong in the fourth quarter of 2024 in the “Maker in China” SME Innovation and Entrepreneurship Global Contest – Global Finals, competing with other top Innovation projects around the world to compete for the honor of the National Entrepreneurship Competition.

 

Judging Criteria

 

  • Whether there is potential growth in the areas where the project technology can be applied and whether there is potential growth in the market
  • Whether the technical or commercial innovation of the project already has sufficient IP protection
  • The project team’s academic qualifications, work experience, entrepreneurial experience, and relevant technical background
  • Whether the business model of the project is feasible and can conform to the laws of market development
