Congratulations to HKUST student team Smashed Potato, which won the Champion, Best Innovation Award, and Best of Tech Award in College Stream in Open Data Hackathon 2022.
Team Smashed Potato was formed by Year 1 SENG student Alan LEUNG Cheuk Nang, Year 1 SBM student Kitty WONG Hoi Ching, and Leo Wai from Poly University.
The winning solution named HKPathfinder is a solution that utilizes the 3D Pedestrian Network from the government’s Lands Department. It provides a platform for all walks of life to precisely locate pedestrian features and to find point-to-point routes with constraints (wheelchair, weatherproof, etc.).
Alan shared that some potential partners showed interest and will follow up after the competition.
Open Data Hackathon held by Hong Kong Technology Advancement Group (HKtag), aims to provide insights on how Hong Kong Government sets out the datasets on the Public Sector Information (PSI) Portal and Hong Kong GeoData Store, the industry experts integrate open data into effective solutions on public utilities and encourage more innovations within the IT industry to utilize the government open data sources with AI and Cloud technologies.
