Three teams from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) achieved remarkable success at the 18th "Challenge Cup" National College Students’ Extracurricular Academic Science and Technology Contest, which received Top, First and Third Prizes. Their innovative projects earned them top honors, showcasing HKUST's dedication to excellence and innovation. HKUST was the only Hong Kong university to receive the Top and First Prizes.
One team secured the prestigious top prize for their research on mass production of high-quality two-dimensional MXene materials. Led by KANG HUI, the team combined MXene materials with ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene film, opening up exciting possibilities in areas such as lithium-ion batteries, electromagnetic shielding, supercapacitors, photothermal conversion, and nanocomposites.
Expressing his gratitude, KANG HUI, the project leader and Managing Director of New Era Limited, stated, "We are honored to represent HKUST and receive the highest recognition, the only national top prize in Hong Kong universities, at this year's 'Challenge Cup.' Leveraging our team's extensive research and development experience, we have successfully preserved the high conductivity and structural stability of MXene materials in our processed products. These materials hold tremendous practical application potential."
KANG HUI also expressed his appreciation for the guidance and strong support provided by Professor GAO Ping, Professor CHEN Qing, and Professor FAN Zhimin from HKUST and Harbin Institute of Technology. He extended his heartfelt thanks to the university and the event organizers for providing an excellent opportunity and platform for their team to showcase their hard work and achievements.
