It all started from HK Techathon 2023. It was COVID time, we had limited access to lab and experiments so we channeled our energy and creativity to other things, like - online competitions. We presented our PhD research ideas and be creative on the commercial potential - and surprisingly we won a Champion in the Healthcare division. To claim the prize, we formed a company, and everything just comes in cascade, like finding co-founders to share the load and crosscheck with one-another, founding members to run the business, more competitions, fundraising, operation sites and suppliers... All these still revolve around the basic ideas and results from lab. But what truly propel us forward is the shared passion and commitment in transforming these concepts from research papers into tangible product, scale up and ultimately benefit the society as a whole, all while generating profits.
Company Description
At Allegrow Biotech, we grow cells fast. Our mission is to enable cell therapy R&D and expedite its clinical translation with our in-house technology and products. As a spinoff from HKUST's CBE laboratory, we specialize in manipulating immune cells using biomaterials. Our scalable "synthetic cell" platform mimics various cell types and serves numerous biomedical applications, from research tools to industrial-scale cell manufacturing. Positioned in the upstream value chain of the cell therapy market, we seek strategic partnerships with reagent and bioreactor device manufacturers to co-create a “One-stop-solution” for cost-effective cell manufacturing.
