I'm Luke Tam, the co-founder of Kaifong Tour. My journey as a founder began in 2016, driven by a deep love for my city, Hong Kong, and a desire to share its rich, diverse culture with the world. Alongside my friends, we set out with a simple yet powerful goal: to tell the stories of our local communities and inspire others through these narratives. Our founding story is rooted in social innovation. We realized that community tourism could serve as a bridge, connecting residents (kaifongs) with their local areas while fostering social awareness. Through our community tours, participants not only experience the thrill of travel but also gain a deeper understanding of each district's unique culture and characteristics. This approach helps people find their identities and a sense of belonging. Our initial tours in Cheung Sha Wan, the district where I grew up, received an overwhelmingly positive response, revealing a strong societal desire for connection and community engagement. This led us to officially establish Kaifong Tour and expand our offerings to include non-traditional tour routes and training programs for community tour guides. Today, our services cater to a variety of organizations and have even embraced online platforms to adapt to modern challenges. We continue to collaborate with community partners to enhance the kaifong experience, ensuring our mission to connect and empower local communities endures.

Kaifong Tour is a social enterprise dedicated to promoting meaningful connections and engagement in Hong Kong’s local communities. Found in 2016, we design and organise tours, which take place at the heart of communities as “the scene of action”. Through community building, education, sustainable tourism and other community projects, Kaifong Tour aims to create a people-oriented and sustainable environment for our communities to develop.
