Prof. Ying Chau (Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, MIT) is an academic entrepreneur with 25+ years of experience in the field of biomaterials and drug delivery. Technologies from her lab have been spun out to award-winning start-ups based in Shenzhen and Hong Kong. Pleryon is commercializing long-acting polymeric therapeutics for a wide range of applications, including the treatment of chronic eye diseases, osteoarthritis, and regenerative aesthetics. Allegrow is developing adaptable biomaterials and harnessing machine learning to accelerate the development of next-generation cell therapy. Opharmic is developing ultrasound technology for safe, effective and needless delivery of drugs to the eye. Prof Chau is serving on the Board of Directors for the Nano and Advanced Materials Institute Limited (Hong Kong), the Editorial Boards of Advanced Drug Delivery Reviews (Elsevier), and as Associate Editor of Drug Delivery (Taylor & Francis) and Frontiers in Drug Delivery (Frontiers). She is also deeply interested in education innovation and is a strong advocate for empowering students for social impact creation. She is the Founder and Director of Student Innovation for Global Health Technology (SIGHT) at HKUST. She was named the “Leading Woman in STEM” by the American Chamber of Commerce in 2021 and “Women in Materials Science” by Royal Society of Chemistry in 2023.
