Zhaolun LIANG graduated from the University of Sheffield in the UK with a bachelor's degree in civil engineering. His master's and doctoral degrees were both studied at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST). He joined Shimao Real Estate in 2018 and was responsible for the engineering management of the Zhuhai-Macao Port City project. During the first year of his Ph.D., he founded Hong Kong Red Circle Technology Co., Ltd (RCT). The main members of the RCT are two well-known professors from the HKUST and five doctoral candidates from the HKUST. Currently, RCT’s main business is AI-driven bridge defect detection and 3D model reconstruction using images captured by Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs).

Company Description

Hong Kong Red Circle Technology Co., Ltd. (RCT) is a company dedicated to the development of UAV-based bridge inspection technology. The main business of RCT is AI-driven bridge defect detection system using images taken by UAVs (also known as drones). Using RCT’s service can greatly improve the accuracy of detection, while avoiding the occurrence of safety accidents. Compared with traditional inspection methods, RCT's service is better in terms of cost and time, and can effectively solve the pain points faced by the traditional bridge inspection industry. Today, RCT has a number of partners with cooperation in four major provinces across the country, and participated in the compilation of the "Guangdong Province Intelligent Bridge Inspection Specification" in 2022. In the first half of 2023, RCT successively received support from the Hong Kong Science and Technology Park (HKSTP) Incubation Programme and the Technology Start-up Support Scheme for Universities (TSSSU). In the second half of the year, RCT won the Excellent Award of the HKUST One Million Dollar International Entrepreneurship Competition Guangzhou Zone.
