[MentorHUB] Networking Event in June 2022

MentorHUB featured event - Networking Event is back in June! Are you looking for opportunities to connect with industry professionals to gain business advice and meet with other HKUST startups? MentorHUB@HKUST Networking Event will be held on 2 June 2022 in the HKUST campus with an array of activities, such as a 1-min elevator pitch, showcase & mingling session with Mentors and other HKUST teams. The top 5 teams in the elevator pitch will receive a special prize to recognize their outstanding performance. Let join us on 2 Jun to get insights and network with industry experts who support student entrepreneurs.

2. HKUST Entrepreneurship Center(EC) will assign the mentor(s) for the startup teams/mentees based on their field, preference, and availability in the networking session.

A brief biography of Participating Mentors:

Prof. Alan Chow
Mentor - Prof Alan Chow 
Prof Alan Chow is a serial entrepreneur with startup experience in information technology, investment, mine and resources, property and education. He has successfully brought a start-up company to list on SGX and HKEx within 4 years and is now serving as the INED of a HKEx listed company. He is the Founder of Focus Capital Group Ltd, and Focus Capital Investment Inc, which invested in companies in Greater Bay Area and Silicon Valley. He is also the Advisory Partner of Beyond Ventures, a Hong Kong Government Information Technology Venture Fund (ITVF) Co-Investment Partner. To promote latest technology in the Greater Bay area, Prof Chow founded Greater Bay Area AI Academy, which develops proprietary technology and realise with various industries to support the education of AI with enhancement on the efficiency and security with reduction in cost. Prof Chow also serves as Professor and Visiting Lecturer of HK and China universities for Entrepreneurship as well as Honorary Judge and Professional Mentor of various Start-up competitions in various countries to promote entrepreneurship. He is a philanthropist who established and operate various charitable organizations and NGOs. One of them is AI Lab which promotes free training of AI coding courses. Prof Chow received professional education on Business Administration in Entrepreneurship and New Business Ventures as well as Electronic Commerce and Internet Computing from Universities in Australia and Hong Kong. He obtained his Doctor of Philosophy in Corporate Finance from Ren Min University of China and is undergoing his second Phd at Tsinghua-Berkeley Shenzhen Institute with research interest on Artificial Intelligence.
Isaac Kow
Mentor - Mr. Isaac KOW
An engineering-trained startup founder who loves process streamlining and optimization. Equipped with strong background in projects management and delivery, practical engineering solutions provision, supply chain management, business strategy development, fundraising and networking.

Vision to apply technology in helping scattered industries to come closer and collaborate in the internet world.
Mr. Ping WONG
Mentor - Mr. Ping WONG
Mr. Ping WONG, graduated from the University of Pittsburgh in the United States with a Master Degree of Public and International Affair, was formerly the Market Officer of the Southeast Asia Desk and later the Deputy Director at the Beijing Office of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC). Ping has worked for different departments of the United Nations at its New York Headquarters as an international intern. Ping has been working in the Chinese Mainland for more than 25 years as entrepreneur and senior executives in different positions for joint ventures and a listed company in areas like IT/Internet, Telecom, manufacturing and business services. He was once the COO of China InfoHighway (瀛海威), the first Internet Service Provider (ISP) in the Chinese Mainland, leading its business re-engineering, corporate restructuring and re-branding. Ping started his first business in Beijing as a young entrepreneur back in 1993. He has found one of the first few biggest business centers in Beijing in 1994, running his other businesses in areas like publishing, advertising, manufacturing and consultancy. He is now in the business of corporate financing, investment, project development, management consulting in China business, particularly related to innovation and technology as well as Healthcare services . Ping is currently Chairman of the Hong Kong Association of China Business, Chairman of the Hong Kong HealthTech Innovation Center, Vice Chairman of the Hong Kong Association of Biotechnology in Chinese Medicine. He is also a Board Member and Chairman of Greater China Affairs Committee of eHealth Consortium, serving also as Advisor for the Center for Chinese Medicine R&D at the HKUST. He is making active effort to establish a cross-border platform to bring HK’s technologies to the Mainland market while integrating financial and technology resources in the Greater Bay Area and Belt & Road countries in different areas.
Mr. Sam LEE
Mentor - Mr. Sam LEE
Sam Lee has around 15 years of financial experience across capital raising, M&A, private equity and stocks investment. Sam was previously in charge of high conviction equity investment in Asia Pacific at BNP Paribas Investment Partners.

After leaving the financial industry, Sam joined the CEO Office at New World Development Company Limited (0017.HK) to advise on M&A strategy of Non-Property Investment, especially in Healthcare, Education and Fintech. Sam is working at Towngas Group (0003.HK) and he has overall responsible for investment and corporate finance activities in the New Energy Business.

Sam is also experienced in startup matching and student mentoring. He is the mentor of some universities and provides professional advisory and sharing seminar about knowledge transfer from academic to business.

Sam holds a Bachelor of Science in Economics and Finance from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. He is also a CFA Charterholder.

 

The Networking Event was successfully held on 2 June 2022 at theBASE. Total 8 startups joined the networking with the 4 mentors (Alan, Isaac, Ping and Sam).
