HKUST Start-Ups Shine in Hong Kong Social Enterprise Challenge 2023

Congratulations! 4 HKUST start-up teams received 8 awards in Hong Kong Social Enterprise Challenge(HKSEC) 2023 Grand Final including both two champions, both two 1st  runner-ups, Best Presentation, Most Innovative Idea, Timely Impact Award and Social Ambassador IP Award.

 

One of the champions AI Guided breaks the record for most awards in the grand final, and received 4 awards. AI Guided was formed by Florence CHAN(HKUST Alumna) and KONG Ka Wai from City University. The winning invention named GUIDi, a lightweight smart wearable device, provides assistance in navigation and independent mobility of the visually impaired and comes along with an intelligence platform.

We look forward to building a strong network of social entrepreneurs and changemakers who share our values and vision for a more sustainable and equitable future.” Said Florence CHAN, co-founder of AI Guided.

 

Florence CHAN would also like to thank the contribution from our project members especially two core project members from HKUST, Henry WONG Yan Ho (MSc in Computer Science) and Anson CHUI Chi To (BEng in Electronic Engineering).

 

The Champion and Best Presentation team “FlashGreen” incubated by HKUST Entrepreneurship Center, has developed an eco-system to recycle residual products near expiry to reduce food waste and promote responsible consumption.

 

“I am very happy and feel honoured because we can see that our efforts are appreciated by others. At the same time, it proves that what we are doing is valuable and truly beneficial to society. As a social enterprise, it is very satisfying to not only have profitability and maintain the operation of the business, but also to benefit more people.” Said Ken Chan(SENG), team lead of FlashGreen.

 

Supported by the HKUST Entrepreneurship Center in securing their seed funding in 2021/22, FlashGreen is also a recipient of HKUST Greater Bay Area Youth Entrepreneurship Fund Program and Chan Dang Foundation Social Entrepreneurship Award.

 

HKSEC is a social venture start-up competition organized by the Center for Entrepreneurship of the Chinese University of Hong Kong and sponsored by the Home and Youth Affairs Bureau.
