Congratulations to P-Sense, a startup company founded by a group of HKUST students, which has won the Bronze Award (Student Innovation – Tertiary or above) in Hong Kong ICT Awards 2018! It was also the Champion of the JCI East Kowloon Next Step Startup Challenge, winner of the First-class Award in the Hong Kong University Student Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition 2017 and winner of the Sliver Medal in Geneva International Invention Expo.

P-Sense is a company spinoff from a research group in the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology lead by Prof. Gary Chan, professor in CSE. The research group has years of experience in indoor positioning technology with academic recognition and commercial deployment experience. P-Sense provides a Wifi based people sensing technology that helps shopping malls and shop owners to acquire indoor behavioral data. With its traffic management portal and analytics service, its clients are able to manage their facilities with insights.

He expresses his greatest gratitude to Prof. Gary CHAN for his support, who is Hugo’s mentor and the director of HKUST Entrepreneurship Center. Hugo believes the advice given by Prof. Gary CHAN was unique and comprehensive that allows him to have a good understanding on both technology and business.

The team consists of two HKUST students: Hugo MAR and Jiajie TAN. Hugo graduated from HKUST Business School in 2016 and devoted himself to transform to a tech entrepreneur by joining the MPhil in Technology, Leadership and Entrepreneurship program. Jiajie is a PhD candidate in Computer Science who applies his practical knowledge and experiences on the research project. The team has also received the Yeung Wing Yee Entrepreneurs Fund from HKUST Entrepreneurship Center. In 2017, P-Sense has won the Student Team Award in the Seventh One Million Dollar Entrepreneurship Competition.
