We're bursting with pride as two of our very own HKUST teams, Seekr and Intelligent Design Technology, gear up for the Global Finals of The Fowler Global Social Innovation Challenge. Taking place on May 3rd-4th, 2024, in San Diego, this prestigious event unites the brightest student social entrepreneurs from around the globe as they present their visionary projects.
Spotlight on Seekr:
Seekr is revolutionizing assistance for the visually impaired with their innovative wearable device that provides audio descriptions of the environment in real-time. Incubated by the HKUST Entrepreneurship Center and previously awarded the Dream Builder Program and the Chan Dang Foundation Social Entrepreneurship Award, Seekr is planning to distribute 100 prototypes through various NGOs. Alongside their device, the team is set to release their mobile application version 2.0, aiming to bolster independence and safety. Recently, Seekr has also secured the AIA Creator Fund and emerged as the Champion of the Hong Kong Social Enterprise Challenge.
Spotlight on Intelligent Design Technology:
Intelligent Design Technology, an awardee of Chan Dang Foundation Social Entrepreneurship Award, is redefining healthcare with its innovative solutions that blend machine learning and cloud computing technologies. This research-driven enterprise, born from the collaborative efforts of HKUST faculty, alumni, and students, excels in contactless health self-monitoring, leveraging thermal sensing to safeguard communities.
The Fowler GSIC is a cornerstone event empowering students to tackle social and environmental issues head-on. With the inclusion of participants from over 25 nations, it has become a beacon for identifying and funding ventures that balance positive societal impact with financial sustainability.
