Co-founder, Z-Omics Limited

 

My name is Kevin, and I am a co-founder of Z-Omics, a pioneering biotech startup specializing in single-cell multi-omics and microfluidics. I graduated from HKUST in 2023 with a bachelor degree in biochemistry and cell biology. My journey into biotechnology entrepreneurship was inspired by my experiences at HKUST, which paved the way for me to revolutionize scientific research.


In 2022, I had the opportunity to study at Cornell University as an exchange student. There, I delved deeply into bioinformatics and single-cell analysis, appreciating their high-throughput capabilities and informativeness. Upon returning to HKUST, I dedicated my Final Year Project to single-cell analysis. Under the guidance of Professor Angela Wu, my principal investigator and co-founder of Z-Omics, I learned the importance of integrating bioinformatics with biochemical experiments to gain a holistic view of research. This led me to explore microfluidics, becoming an end-user who benefits from this cutting-edge technology.


The excitement of scientific discovery, combined with the entrepreneurial spirit of HKUST, inspired my labmates and me to establish Z-Omics. We recognized a significant gap in the market for high-throughput, cost-effective solutions for single-cell analysis and the growing trend towards multi-omics. Our mission is to leverage our proprietary technology to uncover the hidden layers of cellular heterogeneity, ultimately benefiting human well-being.

Single-cell technology measures the genome and other molecular features of individual cells, which reveals the differences and interactions among cells in various biological contexts, providing insights into new biomarkers discoveries, diseases diagnostics, medical treatment monitoring and new therapies development. The application of microfluidics further simplifies the separation process, making the protocol efficient and user-friendly. Moreover, our microfluidics innovatively integrate different types of assays, enabling us to perform high-throughput high-content drug screening to identify potential therapeutic targets for various diseases.
