When his father entered the next phase of his life, retirement, Ryan – who at that time had been a civil servant for six years – decided to do something to help his father make the most of his time and energy.
To accomplish this, in March 2014 Ryan partnered with two friends to set-up a social enterprise, Happy-Retired.com, an online-to-offline platform geared towards the aged 50+ that offers work, activity and products information to users.

Happy-Retired's vision is to empower the aged 50+ to lead a healthy, enjoyable and meaningful retirement life. Within half a year after its establishment, Happy-Retired was admitted to the Hong Kong Science and Technology Park's Incubation Program, and with support from the program, Ryan and his team won The Best Start-up Award in the Hong Kong ICT Awards and The Social & Technology Award in the E2-Entrepreneur Square Day sponsored by the Government SIE Fund in 2015, and the Bees and Trees Award 2016 sponsored by Our Hong Kong Foundation. They are the first O2O marketing platform for those aged 50+, with business clients ranging from Pfizer, MSD, Astrazeneca to Fidelity International and AXA. Happy-Retired has been reported on by more than 70 local and overseas media, with more members joining each day.
By keeping retirees active and in workforce, Ryan wishes to keep them mentally, physically and financially healthy, and lessen public health expenditure in the long run. He regularly interacts with government, academia, healthcare and biotech sector.
