Dr. Ho Nam Chan
Co-founder & CTO of Biorocks
I am a microfluidics and biomaterials engineer turned entrepreneur. I earned my PhD at HKUST, with research spanning microfluidics, 3D printing, tissue engineering, and device electronics. My publications have been cited 900+ times. Seeing the gap between elegant lab prototypes and robust clinical tools, I co-founded Biorocks to translate years of R&D experiences into practical products. As CTO and inventor of our core platform, I lead product engineering, IP strategy, and GMP/ISO 13485-aligned manufacturing. My work focuses on assisted reproductive technologies across human IVF and animal breeding (bovine, murine), with an emphasis on automation, reproducibility, and safety. I am motivated by building technologies that meaningfully improve success rates, reduce costs, and broaden access to high-quality reproductive care. Our team’s efforts were recognized as the champion of the HKUST One Million Dollar Entrepreneurship Competition.
Company Introduction
Biorocks is a deep-tech reproductive-medicine company. We develop and manufacture automated, microfluidics-based systems for embryo cryopreservation and warming, coupled with validated media, microfluidic chips, and standardized workflows. Our flagship platform replaces manual vitrification with a closed, programmable process that enhances consistency, safety, and throughput while reducing dependence on highly specialized operators. The technology serves both human IVF and livestock applications; near-term, we provide devices, consumables, and embryo-production services for bovine and murine markets, while preparing clinical validation for human use. Our operations follow GMP and ISO 13485 practices, and our expanding IP portfolio covers chip architecture, CPA-gradient control, and device automation. Biorocks partners with leading breeding enterprises and research institutes in China, North America, and Europe, bringing reliable, scalable cryobiology from bench to clinic and farm.
