Kathy NG
Co-Founder, MetaGreenX NatureTech Limited
I’m Kathy Ng, co-founder of MetaGreenX, a pioneering NatureTech startup dedicated to tackling deforestation and greenery conservation through innovative technology. My journey began during my studies in Global China Studies at HKUST, where I participated in tree planting activities and noticed a troubling issue: many saplings died within months due to lack of proper care, especially in remote areas. This sparked my determination to find a sustainable solution. In early 2024, I teamed up with fellow students and environmental advocates through entrepreneurial programs at HKUST and MeloFest, where we connected with NGOs and developed our vision for MetaGreenX. Together, we created GrootX—an IoT-powered system that automates irrigation and fertilization, significantly boosting sapling survival rates even in hard-to-reach locations. Becoming a founder was not something I planned, but my passion for nature and technology, combined with hands-on experience in startup incubators, led me to take the leap. I believe that innovation can transform environmental conservation, and I’m proud to be part of a movement that empowers young leaders to create a greener future.
Company Description
MetaGreenX is a pioneering NatureTech startup based in Hong Kong dedicated to revolutionizing environmental conservation through innovative AIoT technology. Founded in 2024, MetaGreenX focuses on addressing the high mortality rate of saplings in remote green areas by developing GrootX, an advanced sapling monitoring and nurturing system. GrootX integrates self-developed sensors, automated nutrient delivery, and real-time data analytics to provide precise, timely care tailored to each sapling's environmental needs, significantly increasing survival rates. The system is solar-powered and remotely operates, reducing the need for frequent on-site inspections and lowering carbon footprints associated with traditional conservation methods. MetaGreenX collaborates closely with environmental organizations, government agencies, and communities to scale its technology across Hong Kong
and beyond, promoting biodiversity, carbon reduction, and ecosystem health.
