Tony TONG
Founder & CEO, Zonic Tech Limited
My name is Tony Tong, Founder of Zonic Tech Limited. I founded Zonic while studying at HKUST during my undergraduate studies, where my early exposure to both academic research and entrepreneurship shaped my decision to build a technology-driven company. Zonic was established after I won awards in the HKUST–Sino One Million Dollar Entrepreneurship Competition as an undergraduate. Motivated by firsthand experience with AI research and real-world creative workflows, I founded Zonic to develop practical, learnable AI agent systems that can understand and operate on complex multimodal data, starting with video. I later completed my MPhil in Computer Science and Engineering at HKUST, graduating in 2025. My research focused on agentic AI and multimodal models, with publications in top-tier international AI conferences. This research directly informs Zonic’s core technology, enabling AI agents that can perceive, reason, and adapt through continuous interaction with users rather than static model training. Today, as Founder, I lead Zonic’s product and technical direction, translating cutting-edge AI research into scalable systems deployed with industry partners across Hong Kong and Taiwan. My goal is to bridge academic innovation and real-world impact by building AI that meaningfully enhances human productivity and creativity.
Company Description
Zonic Tech Limited is a Hong Kong–based AI startup founded in 2022, with operations in Taiwan and expansion toward international markets. The company focuses on building learnable agentic AI systems that can perceive, reason, and act on complex multimodal data, with an initial emphasis on real-world video understanding and editing workflows. Zonic’s core technology is an AI agent architecture that integrates multimodal perception (video, audio, and metadata), reasoning and planning modules, and adaptive execution tools. Unlike one-off generative models, Zonic’s system is designed to learn continuously from expert feedback and user interaction, allowing it to gradually internalize professional workflows and personalize outputs over time. The flagship product, Zonic AI Video Editor, assists video professionals by automating time-consuming tasks such as footage review, retrieval, and rough-cut generation, while preserving human creative control through chat-based refinement. The same agentic foundation also supports smart footage management and semantic video retrieval systems for enterprise clients. Zonic originated from research and entrepreneurship activities at HKUST and has been validated through academic research, industry pilots, and entrepreneurship competitions. The company aims to bridge cutting-edge AI research and practical deployment, building AI systems that meaningfully enhance human productivity rather than replace it.
