Four exceptional alumni from HKUST, representing two innovative startups, have achieved remarkable success by being named to the Forbes 30 Under 30 Asia 2026 list. Recognized across diverse categories, including Consumer & Enterprise Technology and Retail & Ecommerce, these young entrepreneurs showcase the strength and diversity of HKUST's entrepreneurial talent on a global stage.

Among the distinguished honorees are Jason Yuen (SBM 2018), Simon Tsang (SENG 2018), and Gash Tsui (SENG 2019), the co-founders of SOCIF. Originally motivated by the challenges of remote campus commutes, the team developed smart transit software and AIoT solutions that deliver real-time arrival forecasting. Today, their innovative technology is utilized by over 3,500 minibuses in Hong Kong, alongside major franchised bus operators such as KMB and Citybus.

Also recognized is Rick Lui (SSCI 2023), the founder of PetalGard. To address the environmental and safety concerns of conventional poisons, his startup created an eco-friendly pest control solution. The system combines AI-powered rodent-tracking cameras with proprietary repellents manufactured from upcycled tires. The enterprise has successfully expanded its footprint, serving clients across Hong Kong, Singapore, and the United States, and previously won the HKUST-Sino One Million Dollar Entrepreneurship Competition.

Both of these ventures successfully transitioned from promising concepts to market-ready innovations through the dedicated support of the HKUST Entrepreneurship Center. Nurtured through initiatives such as the IPIC Incubation – Dream Builder Program and the Co-Ideation Program, these founders exemplify the technological excellence and visionary thinking that define HKUST's startup ecosystem. The HKUST Entrepreneurship Center remains committed to providing essential resources and mentorship to innovators, continuing to inspire and empower the next generation of changemakers.
