Angus LAW
Founder and Director, Refined Motor Company Limited
My professional journey began as a commercial airline pilot with Cathay Pacific, a role that sharpened my precision, risk assessment and long-term systems thinking. Parallel to my aviation career ran an unshakable lifelong passion for cars and the full automotive ecosystem; I spent every spare moment researching vehicle engineering, classic motoring and emerging sustainable transport trends. Over years of study, I recognised a critical environmental flaw in mainstream green mobility strategies: scrapping functional combustion vehicles to manufacture brand-new electric cars creates crippling embodied carbon footprints, wasting raw materials and emitting massive greenhouse gases during production. This realisation planted the seed for my entrepreneurial mission. I officially launched my entrepreneurship journey in 2020, balancing flight duties with market research, regulatory consultations and EV conversion technical development for Hong Kong’s unique transport laws. After two years of rigorous engineering testing and official certification work, I founded Refined Motor Co in 2022, establishing Hong Kong’s first and only fully legal road-ready EV conversion specialist. My background as a pilot, engineer and automotive enthusiast shaped the company’s core vision: to deliver low-carbon mobility by repurposing existing vehicles instead of replacing them, bridging my love for driving with meaningful climate action and filling an unmet sustainable transport gap across the city.
Company Description
Founded in 2022, Refined Motor Co. stands as Hong Kong’s first and only fully road-legal EV conversion specialist, filling a critical gap in the city’s sustainable transport landscape. Born from a mission to cut excessive carbon waste caused by scrapping functional combustion vehicles for brand-new electric models, the firm prioritises repurposing existing cars rather than manufacturing entirely new chassis to slash embodied emissions. RMC designs and engineers proprietary, patented modular electric powertrains, battery packs and vehicle controllers in-house, adaptable to classic vintage vehicles, private passenger cars and commercial fleets. Every conversion meets Hong Kong’s strict transport department safety and certification standards, guaranteeing full legal registration and on-road use unavailable from unlicensed retrofit shops. Beyond retrofitting private classic car builds for automotive enthusiasts, the company delivers large-scale fleet transformation projects, including landmark contracts with major local enterprises such as Towngas. Blending aviation-grade precision from its founder’s airline pilot background with deep automotive engineering expertise, RMC balances driving heritage, performance and genuine environmental progress, with ongoing plans to expand its certified conversion technology to international markets across the world.
