HKUST student teams achieved strong results at the 12th Hong Kong University Student Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition, organized by the Hong Kong New Generation Cultural Association. A total of nine projects were recognized across multiple competition categories, highlighting the breadth of innovation and entrepreneurial talent within the HKUST community.

The awarded projects spanned a diverse range of sectors, including space technology, climate technology, artificial intelligence, biotechnology, healthcare, advanced sensing technologies, and sports technology. Through addressing real-world challenges with technology-driven solutions, the teams demonstrated the interdisciplinary strengths of HKUST students and researchers.

Three HKUST teams received Second Prize, including Project Tian-Shu, which focuses on the development of a space-based intelligent network integrating sensing, computing, and communication capabilities; SmartCool Optimizer, an AI-powered solution designed to improve the efficiency of cooling plant operations; and PetWell, a digital pet healthcare platform that leverages technology to support proactive pet wellness management.

Two projects were awarded Third Prize. The SPAD-Based Time-of-Flight Sensor project developed advanced depth-sensing technology for LiDAR applications, while LAMPRay Diagnostics presented a personalized monitoring platform supporting kidney health and antimicrobial resistance management.

Four additional teams received Merit Prizes, including Lumyrix Glago, Syntrak Limited, HerDays, and A-EYE, reflecting the diversity of innovations being developed by HKUST entrepreneurs across different disciplines and application areas.

The competition provided participants with an opportunity to showcase their research, technologies, and entrepreneurial initiatives while engaging with industry and academic experts. The achievements also demonstrate the potential of university-led innovation to address emerging societal and industry needs through scalable and impactful solutions.

The success of these projects reflects HKUST's ongoing commitment to fostering innovation, entrepreneurship, and technology translation. Through entrepreneurship education, incubation programmes, mentorship, and ecosystem support, HKUST continues to cultivate innovators and founders capable of transforming ideas and research outcomes into real-world applications.
