Connecting European and Hong Kong Innovation Ecosystems (19 September 2026)

The HKUST Entrepreneurship Center recently welcomed delegates from Eurasia Portal’s China Expedition 2026, with HKUST serving as a key stop on their exploration of Hong Kong’s innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem.
For many participants, the visit marked a valuable opportunity to gain firsthand insights into Hong Kong’s vibrant startup landscape and innovation ecosystem. Through campus visits and discussions, delegates explored the region’s technology commercialization environment, entrepreneurial support structures, and the growing connections between research, innovation, and industry.


During the visit, delegates met with three innovative HKUST startups:
•    LAMPRay Diagnostics, advancing AI-powered antimicrobial resistance testing
•    Fliq, an AI-native platform promoting trustworthy news through primary-source evidence
•    YBit Limited, transforming education through AI-driven personalized learning experiences


Together, these ventures highlighted the diversity of innovation emerging from the HKUST startup ecosystem, spanning healthcare, media, and education technologies.
The session also provided an opportunity for participants to learn more about Hong Kong’s innovation ecosystem and the role of HKUST in fostering entrepreneurship and technology commercialization. Students and delegates engaged in discussions on startup development, ecosystem building, and cross-border innovation trends between European and Hong Kong markets.


The visit facilitated meaningful exchanges between delegates from Europe and members of the HKUST entrepreneurship community, encouraging dialogue on innovation, entrepreneurship, and opportunities for international collaboration. Through these interactions, participants gained a deeper understanding of how universities can contribute to the development of vibrant startup ecosystems and support the growth of innovation-driven ventures.
